I'm proud that my portrait 'Sitting, Remembering, at Michael Whipple Memorial' has been curated into Black Box Gallery's Portraiture: Photography Now Exhibition. The exhibit was juried by Portland photographer Kelli Pennington. The photo can be viewed in the online gallery during the month of September.
A bit about the photo:
Michael Whipple had been recently homeless before his passing and was well known to the homeless community and those who advocate for them in Corvallis. He was found at this bench at the riverfront on the Willamette and his friends created this memorial from driftwood and other articles in their possession. The man in the photo was visiting the bench and reminiscing about his friend when I arrived to take photos of it. The city had plans to dismantle it in the coming days, which created quite a stir in the community during that time.
More info about Mr. Whipple's passing and the memorial bench can be found here.
